School children, MPs, Mayors, councillors, local sporting heroes, Iwi, government workers, embassies, business people, and the general public are invited to bring a rock, stone, or pebble to form part of the memorial, and to climb a local summit for a brief memorial service.
Each school wanting to participate can select five of its pupils - whom will lead the adults and other children on the "summit climbs" in each area where the tribute tour calls.
Members of Lions Clubs of New Zealand will provide ground support co-ordination and will collect the rocks, stones, or pebble for transport to Tongariro. Or you can make a gold coin donation to the Hillary Foundation.
Words of Wisdom
These words, once spoken by Sir Edmund Hillary, are being repeated on the peaks of each of the Summits for Ed climbed during the tribute tour.
"If my life finishes tomorrow I would have little cause for complaint - I have gathered a few successes, a handful of honours and more love and laughter than I probably deserve."
"Yet I look at myself and feel a vast dissatisfaction - there was so much more I could have done. And this is what really counts - not just achieving things but the advantage you have taken of your opportunities and the opportunities you have created."
"I have had the world lie beneath my clumsy boots and saw the red sun slip over the horizon after the dark Antarctic winter. I have been given more than my share of excitement, beauty, laughter and friendship."
